“Inspired by Art in Nature!”

Photography is a way for me to capture a subject as I see it in my mind and transform it into an image that enables the viewer to connect with the subject.  Nature has always been an important part of my life.  After learning what to look for, it did not take long for me to observe and literally turn my focus on the beauty in nature - from its rich colors to its myriad of shapes, patterns and textures.  I am especially drawn to subjects and landscapes that project warmth and are enhanced by the variations in the light whether subtle or vivid.

All aspects of photography are interesting to me, including macro photography, which enables you to visualize details and beauty that may not be readily visible to the naked eye. Nature provides beautiful subjects to photograph in flowers, leaves, plants, insects, and so many other things. Photographing subjects in an abstract manner is another way to really get the creative juices flowing because it allows one to explore so many artistic and creative possibilities! In the digital age, photographers have been blessed with software tools that allow us to be both photographers, painters and graphic designers and combine those artistic disciplines to create photographic art!

However, the images found in nature are the ones that are near and dear to my heart. If someone looks at one of my images and says, “I wish I could be there!” or “I feel like I am right there!” then I feel that I have accomplished what I set out to do.

From an artistic perspective, the two greatest influences on my personal photography, thus far, have come from Art Becker and Ellen Anon, both internationally known and award winning photographers from the Erie area. From them I have learned to look for art everywhere and to capture what I see with my mind’s eye so that it has the greatest visual impact.

Art is truly all around us and the real gem in this area is Presque Isle.  Beauty abounds throughout Presque Isle from the beaches and the water to the lighthouses and the wildlife in all the “nooks and crannies” of the peninsula.  A perfect day is walking around Presque Isle with a camera in hand! Beauty is all around if you open your heart and your mind to seeing what nature has to offer! It is so rewarding to be able to share my passion for photography through these images!
